The CGEM DX 1100 HD is the telescope every astrophotographer dreams about
The Celestron CGEM DX 1100 HD is one of the latest telescopes that Celestron has developed, including a full Go-To system in which more than 40,000 objects are stored. Users can almost find every known star, planet, nebulae and star cluster with this device. The new CGEM DX tripod is able to carry telescopes up to 14 inch and has a slewing capacity of two degrees per second. Almost all objects in the database can be found within a matter of seconds.
Edge HD optics: flat range of view
The CGEM DX 1100 HD has 'Edge HD optics'. This is an Aplanatic Schmidt telescope that is designed to produce a wide visual and photographic field, resulting in images without graphic deviations. The optical system is designed to reduce off-axis coma and produce a flat image all the way to the edges of the image field. This means stars on the sides of your photographs will no longer look out-of-focus or vague. Additionally, EdgeHD is designed to cater to the much larger chips that are built into digital cameras these days. More information can be found on this page.
CGEM DX tripod + mount: the
tripod and the CGEM montage
This new CGEM DX tripod is Celestrons answer to the market's demand to develop tripods for heavier telescopes (up to 14 inch telescopes) than the CGEM can handle (up to 11 inch telescopes). It is not an extremely expensive tripod compared to the CGEM Pro tripod. The CGEM DX tripod therefore has a longer tube for counterweights, to allow heavier telescopes and accessories. In addition, inside the mount all the electronics are replaced by a new chip and heavier engines, so even large telescopes can easily be mounted on.
Ergonomic design: large azimuth / altitude buttons and internally concealed wiring
The CGEM DX is ergonomically designed with large horizontal (azimuth) and vertical (altitude) buttons, that provide a very easy polar alignment. The RA and DEC motor wiring is hidden inside which makes for a very sleek look and a very easy set-up.
Innovative: very easy polestar alignment
The CGEM DX series have a new innovative Polar alignment procedure called All-Star™. All-Star allows users to choose any bright star to align with, as the software calculates and assists the polar alignment. Another great feature of the CGEM DX that will surely please astro-photographers is the Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PEC), which allows users to train the worm gears periodic errors, while the mount retains the existing PEC recordings.
No image shift by locking the main mirror
To please modern astrophotographers the Celestron Edge HD SCTs has been equipped with a new mirror assembly with which the primary mirror can be fixed. This feuture almost banishes the dreaded 'image shift' out of existence. In order to shorten the cooling time, it is equipped with special cooling vents that are located behind the mirror, so air can circulate along the main mirror more easily.
